Jenn and TJ - A French Quarter Engagement Session
One thing I never expected was how much I enjoy getting to know the couples I work with.
I have always been an introvert, someone who listens more than speaks in a group, someone who will do your dishes after a dinner party because I love having a task to complete. When I started this journey into photography, the thing I was most nervous about was being able to engage with my couples and make them feel at ease. I was afraid everyone would realize that I am just an awkward nerd who listens to 20+ hours of non-fiction audio books every week. To my total surprise, getting to know my clients has been my absolute favorite. It is such a beautiful thing to spend time with a couple, ask them about their relationship, watch them relive fond memories, and give them an excuse for a little PDA.
As one of my icebreakers with Jen and TJ, I asked them to try to come up with a funny story from when they first moved in together. I figure most couples have some great misunderstanding that is frustrating in the moment but, as time wears on, becomes a silly memory of the past. My goal was to get them talking and capture some "candid but posed laughter" that makes for great images. These two, though, simply looked at each other and let out a sigh of relief. They both had the expression of returning home after a long trip. The comfort these two found in each other was beautiful.
I've said it before, and I will say it again: I am so grateful that I get to do this work.
We spent an early evening wandering about the Quarter at sunset. Here are some of their images.
